VM Migration

Customer

Our customer is a global IT service provider, one of the most recognized companies in the IT community.

Industry

Information technologies, spare parts production.

Project Overview

The goal of the project is to port multiple information systems from VM environment on System/370/390 to a system environment based on Lotus technologies with further enhancement of the systems’ functionality and performance. The VM Migration Project consists of a set of smaller projects, PCN (Process Change Notification) being among them. The goal of the project is to port PCN to the Lotus Notes platform. The application is intended for record keeping and circulation management within the spare parts production process.

Project Execution

The project was specific because of the intricate and sophisticated relationships of business data at the customer enterprise. Domino/Notes on the AIX platform was used as the application server, while Domino/Notes on PC platforms (Windows NT, OS/2) as application clients.

The project was implemented without interrupting the customer’s manufacturing process and with the highest quality. Sixteen IBA developers were involved. Most of them performed remotely from Minsk with a few working in the US to provide effective communication between the customer and the development team in Minsk, Belarus.

Project Results

A reliable, scalable, easy to maintain, and providing extensive functionality system was created. Written in Lotus Script, the new application implements an information management system for document circulation and provides the user with an effective means of creating PCN inquiries. The user received a complete document processing tool kit.

The customer was impressed with the IBA's proficiency and good teamwork. In 2004, PCN was recognized as the best of breed across the customer’s manufacturing business. Speaking about the IBA contribution to the VM Migration Project, Nancy Holme, Professional Development Manager of IBM Global Services, said: “IBA tested and remedied over 40 applications for Technology Group. […] As we move forward, IBA is developing e-business and client-server applications for Technology Group. IBA has taken ownership to fully understand our project management processes and our application security requirements. I am delighted with the work products IBA has delivered and would highly recommend them to other IT application development divisions.”
